Non-Operative Care
Injectables
Injections are typically used early in treatment. Injectables include local anesthetics, cortisone derivative and hyaluronate polymers to reduce joint pain associated with arthritis, as well as tendon or bursa issues. Injectables include Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Lipogems.
Lipogems
Dr. Peer will is using the Lipogems system in the operating room in conjunction with arthroscopic techniques and in the office for patients who are not yet ready for major surgery. This is a cell based therapy where small particles of fat with their associated mesenchymal cells are transferred to another site in the body.
Lipogems & Regenerative Medicine
Mesenchymal progenitor cells (a specific type of stem cells) injected for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis have been in the research phase for several years. These cells can be harvested from adipose tissue present in a patient’s abdomen using a simple aspiration procedure, and prepared using a micro fragmentation system that was developed in Italy and is now available in the U.S. Dr. Peer will be using this Lipogems system initially in the operating room in conjunction with arthroscopic techniques and will be transitioning this system to use in the office for nonsurgical treatment of knee arthritis in the near future.

Platelet Rich Plasma
As the research in Orthobiologics and Regenerative Medicine have evolved, Dr Peer has been using injections of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for treatment of non-surgical injuries and arthritic and degenerative problems. Research shows that PRP can help speed healing, reduce healing time for injured tissue, curb pain, and boost mobility in rotator cuff injuries.
Hyaluronic Acid
This injectable is a preferred treatment method for individuals still in early stages of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Treatments can prolong the comfort of the joint, further delaying surgical interventions. This natural substance lubricates the joints and is an already occurring substance found in the human body.

Platelet Rich Plasma
Some of the key advantages of PRP injections are that they can reduce the need for anti-inflammatories or stronger medications like opioids. In addition, the side effects of PRP injections are very limited because, since the injections are created from your own blood, your body will not reject or react negatively to them.

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid, also called hyaluronan or hyaluronate is a gel-like substance that is naturally present throughout the human body. In the joints, natural hyaluronic acid has several functions, including: Lubrication, Growth of Cartilage and Bone, Reducing Inflammation.
